NVQ Qualifications for the Asbestos and Construction Industry - Details
Level 3 City and Guilds Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment
Entry Requirements:

Assessor candidates must be vocationally competent in their own area of work and have access to "end of line" candidates in this area who require assessment of their performance. It is anticipated that this assessment activity can provide all the opportunities required for the assessor candidate to gather the evidence requirements of the target award.
All candidate evidence is subject to internal and external quality checks. Internal quality checks (Internal Quality Assurance) will be provided by AJO Training. The Awarding Body (City and Guilds) will provide External Verification.
Accreditation:

Candidates will be registered for City and Guilds Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (qualification no. 6317-31)
Assessments
1 x 1 day workshop on principles and practices of assessing
3 x assessments of learners chosen by assessor candidate carried out naturally in the work environment

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Removal of Hazardous Waste (Construction) – Licensed Asbestos
The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Removal of Hazardous Waste – Licensed Asbestos qualification has been developed for delivery in a working environment; this means you need to be employed to study this qualification. It has been designed to develop and recognise your skills, knowledge and competence so that you can work in Removal of Hazardous Waste – Licensed Asbestos within the construction industry or progress onto further learning/assessment. This qualification will enable the learner to gain the blue skilled worker card which is now essential on most major construction sites.
The learner will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units:
– Installing and Removing Enclosure or Containment Areas for the Removal of Licensed Asbestos Materials in the Workplace
– Stripping and Removing Licensed Asbestos Materials in the Workplace
– Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
– Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
– Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace
This NVQ qualification requires the learner to demonstrate, in a real workplace environment, that you are competent against a set of performance statements.
Assessments
You are assessed by an occupationally competent and qualified assessor whose job is to work with you and help you through your programme of learning.
BTEC L3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision (Construction)
The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision qualification has been developed for delivery in a working environment;this means you need to be employed to study this qualification. It has been designed to develop and recognise your skills, knowledge and competence so that you can work in Occupational Work Supervision within the construction industry or progress onto further learning.
This qualification is a certificate of competence, as candidates will undertake theoretical and practical assessments to verify knowledge and understanding.
Assessments
You are assessed by an occupationally competent and qualified assessor whose job is to work with you and help you through your programme of learning.
NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Construction Site Supervision
The course includes six modules and an onsite assessment visit. You study one module per month and the qualification should take approximately nine months to complete.
The course gives you the confidence to carry out your supervisory responsibilities effectively.
Assessments
The course involves classroom tuition and workshops, with support from industry experts to help you meet the requirements of the NVQ.
Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management
The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management has been developed to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence demonstrated by an individual in the workplace. This Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management – General provides the opportunity for individuals who specialise in general construction contracting operations management to demonstrate their competence.
Assessments
This qualification is assessed through on site assessment and a candidate of evidence produced by the learner in association with an experienced assessor.
Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management
A Pearson Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management enables fast track access to becoming a member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) as your Professional Review will be shorter than normal, requiring only a short paper focusing on your ethics and professional judgement.

The Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management is designed to assess occupational competence in the workplace. Learners are required to demonstrate their skills, knowledge and experience in construction senior management, such as company directors, contracts & project managers, senior site managers, senior quantity surveyors, senior estimators and senior engineers, who are leading and controlling projects in construction and is recognised by the CIOB as meeting professional standards at MCIOB level.
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations
This qualification enables you, the learner, to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding and to demonstrate your competence in a real workplace environment so you can work in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations within the construction industry.

Its primary purpose is to confirm the learner’s occupational competence as a painter, heritage painter or industrial painter.

At Level 2, you will learn the techniques and gain the confidence to apply high-quality finishes to a variety of surfaces.
The learner will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units:
-Erecting and Dismantling Access/Working Platforms in the Workplace
-Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
-Conforming to Productive Working Practises in the Workplace
-Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace
-Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller in the Workplace
-Preparing surfaces for painting/decorating in the workplace

Learners may progress from the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations (Construction) to a range of qualifications at Level 3 and above, including Occupational Work Supervision.

This qualification is supported by federation Painting and Decorating Association (PDA).

At present the NVQ Level 2 isn’t funded by the government, however, the cost of OSAT is tax deductible. CITB Registered Levy payers may be able to claim £600 back on completion of the qualification for more information on levy payments, please visit www.citb.co.uk
NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting (Construction) – Painter
This qualification demonstrates competence against the National Occupational Standards for Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting.

At Level 3, you will learn more about organisation in the construction sector, and learn advanced and complex techniques for applying finishes.

Working on a construction site or in domestic and commercial premises to given specifications preparing background surfaces for painting and decorating, applying paint to complex surfaces by brush and roller. Hanging wall coverings to complex surfaces.

Learner should have completed an NVQ level 2 in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations (Construction) Painter* and must be employed as a painter and decorator and have the potential and opportunity to successfully cover the full range of assessments to gain the qualification.

You will study a range of NVQ units including confirming work activities and resources for an occupational work area, developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships, confirming the occupational method of work, erecting and dismantling access/working platforms, preparing surfaces for painting/decorating, applying paint systems to complex surfaces, conforming to general health, safety and welfare, hanging wall coverings to complex surfaces, hanging wide-width vinyls, installing coving, centre pieces and texture products; or one of nine other trade related units. All units will be covered in the workplace.
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Fenestration Installation (Construction)
This qualification is aimed at those who work as installers of glass supporting systems, which include window and door units. The standards cover the most important aspects of the job for those working as Conservatory Installers and Window and Door Installers and will demonstrate their competence of fenestration installation. The mandatory units cover communication; health and safety; transporting, handlingand positioningand materials;components and installation requirements. The threeoptional groups cover preparing,installing and post installation.

The learner will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units:
-Communicating and Working with Others in the Glass and Related Working Environments
-Identify and Confirm Installation Requirements in Glass and Related Work
-Maintain Health and Safety in the Fenestration Installation Working Environment
-Locate, Transport, Handle and Position and Materials and Components in Fenestration Installation.

The learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in four of the following optional units:
-Prepare the Site, Equipment and Tools for Fenestration Installation
-Remove Existing Windows and Doors and Prepare Apertures
-Prepare and Shape Fenestration Installation Products and Materials
-Prepare and Position Window and Door Units Ready for Installation
-Install Glass and / or Panels into Windows and Doors
-Install Conservatories
-Install Windows and Doors
-Post Windows, Doors or Conservatories Installation Activity
-Maintain / Repair Windows and Doors or Conservatories
-Understanding the Building Regulations in the Fenestration Industry.

This qualification is supported by various federations.
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) - Site Carpentry
The learner will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units:
-Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace.
-Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace.
-Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace.

The learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in three of the following optional units:
-Installing First Fixing Components in the Workplace
-Installing Second Fixing Components in the Workplace
-Erecting Structural Carcassing Components in the Workplace
-Maintaining Non-structural Carpentry Work in the Workplace
-Setting Up and Using Transportable Cutting and Shaping Machines in the Workplace
-Installing Fire Resisting Timber Door Assemblies and Door-sets in the Workplace.

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration
The Level 2 Diploma qualification has a minimum credit value of 45, these credits are gained through a combination of mandatory and optional credits. The madatory units shown below are worth 21 credits.
